Viewing the Royal Wedding

Updated: May 22, 2018

What an eventful morning! My family and I woke up at five in the morning to start watching the lucky guests invited to the royal wedding enter St. George’s chapel. I was amazed by the beautiful fascinators all the women wore and the men looked very dapper in their tails! My favorite head accessory was worn by Megan Markle’s mother who donned an understated yet chic hat.

It was very exciting to see familiar faces like George and Amal Clooney, Priyanka Chopra, and James Corden arrive. When it began getting closer to seven, we made a pot of English breakfast tea and dug into some delicious homemade chocolate chip scones, just in time for watching Megan Markle step out of her Rolls Royce and give the world a first look at her elegant gown. The now Duchess of Sussex wore a simple yet timeless boatneck, three quarter sleeve A line dress designed by Givenchy’s Clare Waight Keller. Keller also designed a cathedral length style veil that draped behind Markle as she entered the chapel, showing off the five meters of exquisite material.

With a hot cuppa in hand, I raptly watched Markle’s grand entrance in front of her 600 carefully chosen guests. The ceremony went seamlessly besides a very long and wordy sermon by American bishop Michael Bruce Curry who brought the venue into the twenty first century by reading his lengthy speech off an Ipad. Curry definitely caused jaws to drop among some of the guests, particularly the members of the royal family! Traditional Brits were in for more modernization as a London based gospel choir serenaded the congregation with Stand By Me. The newly married Duke and Duchess stuck to tradition though by sharing a kiss in front of the public as they stepped out of the chapel under an archway of white garden roses, peonies, foxgloves, beech, birch and hornbeam. Smiling ear to ear, the couple stepped into their horse drawn carriage, pulling Markle’s long veil in, and set off for Windsor Castle. What a perfect fairytale exit! As an Anglophile, it was well worth getting up at 5am to witness this historic union. I hope you enjoyed watching this beautiful wedding with a cuppa something!

Wishing you warm drinks and new adventures,

Maria
